Cabrillo Festival 1976
Every year the Cabrillo Festival reenacts the arrival of Juan Rodrigues Cabrillo, Portuguese navigator at the service of Spain and the first European to set foot on the what is now the western part of the United States. This is a series of photographs I took during the Cabrillo Festival 1976. John Rebelo, was President and José M. L. Alves, Vice President - The event was held then at Shelter Island when Paulo Goulart was the personage of Cabrillo. On the photos Mary R. Gilgitto is seen on the stage as MC and Tony Codina, the second personage of Cabrillo is seen walking toward the bay to coordinate the landing. the Portuguese American Dancers under the direction of Mary Moniz entertained the audience along with the Point Loma Srings, made up of António Garcia da Rosa, Leonel Garcia da Rosa, Manuel (Frizado) Silva and Manuel Labrincha.
